Community organisations in Parramatta and across New South Wales are being encouraged to apply for a share of $1 million in state government funding to support multicultural festivals and community events over the next year.

The NSW Government has opened applications for the Stronger Together Festival and Event Grants Program, which offers grants of between $5,000 and $20,000 to help deliver cultural festivals, celebrations and community activities between 1 October 2026 and 30 September 2027.

Administered by Multicultural NSW, the program aims to support events that bring people from different backgrounds together and showcase the state’s cultural diversity through food, music, entertainment and community celebrations.

NSW Minister for Multiculturalism Steve Kamper said community events play an important role in strengthening social connections.

“It’s never been more important for communities to get together in-person to celebrate the many cultures that make up NSW.”

Mr Kamper said the grants help organisations create opportunities for cultural exchange and community participation.

“These grants are about fostering understanding and belonging, by giving the whole community the chance to taste, experience, and learn about diverse cultures.”

He said multicultural organisations continue to deliver a wide range of events across the state.

“Every year we are impressed by the creativity and energy our multicultural organisations bring to these events, from small local gatherings to major multicultural festivals.”

“The NSW Government is proud to support them to turn their ideas into events that are highlights on the community’s calendar.”

Parramatta MP Donna Davis said the grants could help local organisations expand and strengthen their community events.

“Parramatta is an incredibly diverse community and our local festivals and events are what bring everyone together.”

She encouraged community groups planning cultural celebrations to seek support through the program.

“I encourage any local organisation planning a multicultural event to apply for this funding to help make your event a reality.”

Applications for the Stronger Together Festival and Event Grants Program close at 4pm on Monday, 13 July 2026.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
