The 2026 FIFA World Cup introduced a historic first by holding three separate opening ceremonies across the three host nations — Canada, Mexico and the United States. The festivities were produced in creative partnership with Balich Wonder Studio.
The global tournament officially kicked off at the historic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 11 June ahead of the opening match. Colombian singer-songwriter and dancer Shakira, alongside a Nigerian singer-songwriter, debuted the tournament’s official song, “Dai Dai”. The celebration heavily featured regional and Latin stars, including J Balvin, Danny Ocean, Belinda, Maná, Lila Downs, Los Ángeles Azules and Alejandro Fernández, who performed the Mexican national anthem.
The ceremony showcased indigenous clothing, papel picado and folkloric performances. It also featured a surprise appearance by the popular Pop Mart art toy Labubu. The United States ceremony was held at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles ahead of the USA-Paraguay match. The event featured major pop and hip-hop acts including Katy Perry, Future, Anitta, LISA, Rema and Tyla. The Canadian opening celebration was themed around the nation’s cultural mosaic ahead of its first home match.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is taking place from 11 June to 19 July 2026. For the first time in history, the tournament is jointly hosted by three nations — Canada, Mexico and the United States — and features an expanded format of 48 teams.

Florian Wirtz of Germany is another midfield artist whose performances are a must-watch.
Among the legends seeking to further cement their place in football history is Lionel Messi of Argentina. Playing as an elder statesman and creative anchor for the defending champions, this tournament could represent his final World Cup appearance. Cristiano Ronaldo of Portugal remains a deadly finisher and will once again be under the spotlight.
Regional talents will also attract attention. Christian Pulisic, the talismanic captain of the United States and AC Milan star, carries the hopes of a nation eager for a deep run in the tournament. Qatar captain Akram Afif, a two-time AFC Asian Footballer of the Year, remains the creative heartbeat of the Qatari side.
Spain and France have emerged as the consensus favourites to win the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This prediction is supported by major betting markets, statistical projections and sports analysts. Simulations and forecasting models have consistently placed Spain among the leading contenders, closely followed by a highly competitive group of European and South American heavyweights. As always, however, football has a habit of producing surprises, and the final outcome remains uncertain.
