Victoria’s live music sector is set for another boost, with the state government opening a fresh round of grants aimed at supporting festivals across metropolitan and regional areas.

Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brooks announced that applications are now open for the latest round of the Live Music Festivals Fund, offering grants of up to $50,000 to eligible Victorian festival operators. The program is delivered by the Allan Labor Government through Music Victoria and is open to festivals that attract more than 1,000 attendees.

The fund has already supported 32 festivals across its first two rounds in 2024 and 2025. Backed events have included established fixtures such as the Queenscliff Music Festival, the Port Fairy Folk Music Festival and Echuca-Moama’s Riverboats Festival, alongside newer additions like Bulleen’s Gateway Festival.

Brooks said the funding reflects the state’s continued focus on the cultural sector.

“We are the cultural capital of Australia and this fund is just one way we are continuing to back our live music industry,” he said.

He added that festivals provide important performance opportunities for musicians while contributing to local economies.

“Music festivals are much more than a great day out. They give musicians valuable opportunities to perform, strengthening our creative fabric and offerings. They also drive jobs and tourism across Victoria.”

The Live Music Festivals Fund sits alongside other government backed initiatives, including the 10,000 Gigs: The Victorian Gig Fund, which assists venues to host paid performances, and the Music Works program, supporting artists, bands, organisations and events.

Music Victoria Chief Executive Fiona Duncan said festivals play a central role in the state’s creative ecosystem.

“There’s something truly special about live music festivals. They create shared live music experiences that connect communities, spark discovery and generate vital opportunities and employment for artists and creative workers,” she said.

“As delivery partner, Music Victoria is proud to work with the Victorian Government to ensure this investment supports experienced organisers and strengthens the long term sustainability of Victoria’s live music sector.”

Applications for the current round opened on Tuesday 3 March at 10am and close on Tuesday 31 March at 2pm. An online information session is scheduled for Monday 16 March at 2pm. Further details are available via Music Victoria.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
