The Blacktown City Diwali Lights Competition is back for 2022 and residents are encouraged to light up their homes to celebrate.

Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale OAM said residents of all cultural backgrounds were invited to decorate their homes with lights as part of Blacktown City Council’s annual competition.

‘Blacktown City’s Diwali Lights Competition is an increasingly popular event on our annual calendar, attracting fabulous entries over the years,’ Mayor Bleasdale said.

‘There will be more than $2,500 in cash prizes available for the best-decorated homes across the City’s 5 Wards.

‘We will once again award the prestigious title of ‘Best Street’, which acknowledges neighbours who come together to create a festive and culture-filled atmosphere in the street they call home.

‘We will also recognise Best Rangoli, which are colourful artworks made from sand, flower petals, flour or rice.

‘Blacktown City is proud of its large Hindu population, with more than 51,000 adherents.

‘I look forward to seeing the amazing entries in this year’s competition.’

Judging criteria will be based on the overall appeal of the decorations visible on the front of the property only.

Preliminary judging will take place from Monday 17 October to Wednesday 19 October from 8 pm-11 pm.

Entries are now open and will close at 5 pm on Friday 14 October 2022. For more information visit: www.blacktown.nsw.gov.au/diwalilights

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
