One of Australia’s best-known youth outreach workers and social campaigners is coming to Wyndham to talk about his life story and share his insight with the community.

Les Twentyman OAM will be at the Plaza Library to talk about his new book, The Mouth that Roared. Wyndham City’s Learning city portfolio holder Cr Joh Gilligan said the free event would be a great opportunity for people to hear firsthand from an Australian icon.

“Les Twentyman has devoted his life to young people doing it tough. He is a legend in Melbourne’s West and has set up crucial programs, services and resources to assist young people at risk,” Cr Gilligan said.

While he has faced many hurdles in his own life, his story is one of success, Cr Gilligan said, adding that through organisations like the 20th Man Fund, Les has created dedicated and passionate teams who work directly with young people to bring about individual change.

In his new memoir, Les shares where he came from and what made him one of Australia’s most respected advocates for vulnerable young people.

“This is a great chance for people to hear directly from this national icon and hopefully walk away with a greater of understanding of how we can all work together to make our society better,” Cr Gilligan said.

Les Twentyman OAM will be talking at the Plaza Library on Thursday, 8 February from 7-8.30pm. For more information call 8734 2600 or visit www.wyndham.vic.gov.au/libraries

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
