Football fans across Western Sydney will be able to watch the Socceroos’ 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage matches live at Parramatta Square, with the precinct set to transform into a major community viewing site during the tournament.
Australia’s three group stage games will be screened on a large outdoor screen at the square’s amphitheatre, with entertainment and football activities planned around the daytime fixtures.
City of Parramatta Council Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the live site would give supporters a place to gather and celebrate the World Cup atmosphere closer to home.
“Western Sydney lives and breathes football and there is no better place to come together and support the Socceroos than Parramatta Square,” Cr Zaiter said.
“We all know Parramatta is fast becoming the home of festivals, sports and entertainment and this is about our community gathering to celebrate our national team on the world stage.”
The initiative comes as football continues to grow across Western Sydney, a region long recognised for its strong grassroots participation and multicultural supporter base.
A-League club Western Sydney Wanderers will take part in the live site activations during matches on June 14 and June 26. Fans attending those fixtures will have access to activities including an inflatable goal shooting challenge and panna cages for head to head football contests.
Council is also hoping the event will help drive activity through Parramatta’s restaurants, cafes and retail precincts during the tournament period.
“As an emerging global city, it’s important we provide residents and visitors with the opportunity to watch the world’s biggest sporting event right here in Parramatta,” Cr Zaiter said.
“Our city will be alive with World Cup fever, so make the most of game day and bring your family and friends to dine out across our great eateries and shop in our vibrant retail precincts.”
The live site schedule includes Australia’s opening group match against Türkiye on June 14 at 2pm, followed by an early morning clash against the United States on June 20 at 5am. The Socceroos will then face Paraguay on June 26 at midday.
Public live sites have become an increasingly common feature of major international sporting tournaments across Australia, giving supporters who cannot travel overseas a shared space to experience matches together.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted across the United States, Canada and Mexico, is expected to attract record global audiences and will feature an expanded tournament format with 48 national teams.
