June 26 : It was a win-win situation for families last year in May, when School kids bonus was passed in Parliament to help 1.3 million Australian families with their children in schools.

Schoolkids bonus actually is a sort of help for the parents to pay for school expenses such as uniforms , books , stationery and excursions and the first installment of this was released in January this year.
The eligible families would receive $410 a year for each child in primary school and $820 for each child in secondary school in two installments.

The second payment of the schoolkids bonus is coming in July, which would help the parents in coping up the mid-year education expenses.

The second payment is worth $205 for each child in primary school and upto $410 for each child in secondary school.
The payment would be paid directly in the bank accounts of the eligible families between 4-17 July 2013.

Any family with child in primary or secondary school and which receives Family Tax Benefit Part A or a primary or secondary student receiving an income support payment is eligible to receive school kids bonus.

Anyone who is eligible and hasn’t already updated his child’s education details with Centrelink, can visit online Services by 29 June to ensure that they would receive the correct amount and are paid on time.

Eligible parent, Mrs. Jackson, is planning to use the July payment towards winter uniforms and school excursions of her child.

“My daughter has an excursion coming up, and with the colder months not far away she really needs some new jumpers, track pants and skivvies to keep warm. The July payment is going to be really helpful to meet these expenses” Mrs Jackson said.

The Schoolkids bonus replaced the Education Tax Refund in January 2013 so eligible families cannot claim education expenses in their 2012-13 income tax returns.
