A four day residential camp inspired by the Mahabharata is set to take place in Sydney this July, offering children and teenagers an opportunity to learn about one of India’s most enduring epics through a mix of storytelling, discussions, cultural activities and outdoor experiences.

Organised by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), the “Dharmo Rakshati Rakshitah: The Mahabharata Camp” will be held from 16 to 19 July 2026 at Bundilla Scout Camp in Winston Hills, New South Wales. The programme is open to participants aged eight to sixteen.

According to organisers, the camp aims to introduce young people to the characters, themes and lessons of the Mahabharata in an engaging setting away from daily routines. Activities are expected to include group learning sessions, team building exercises and camp based experiences designed to encourage participation and interaction among attendees.

The Mahabharata, one of the world’s longest epic narratives, continues to hold cultural and literary importance for many communities. Organisers say the camp will focus on values, ethical decision making and personal responsibility, themes that feature prominently throughout the text.

Youth camps centred on cultural heritage have become increasingly helped younger generations maintain connections with language, history and traditions while growing up in a multicultural environment. Such programmes provide a space for children to develop friendships, leadership skills and a sense of identity.

The camp will take place at Bundilla Scout Camp, located at 6 Baden Powell Place, Winston Hills. Registration is open, with a participation fee of $200. Organisers have encouraged interested families to register early due to limited capacity.

For enquiries, families can contact camp coordinator Devavrath on 0468 566 063.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
