Parramatta will host a wide range of free workshops and community events later this month as part of Youth Week 2026, offering young people opportunities to connect, learn and take part in local activities.

The program will run from 16 to 26 April and follows the New South Wales Youth Week theme, Dream. Dare. Do. It is aimed at people aged 12 to 24 and includes activities across creative arts, sport, digital skills and job readiness.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Cr Martin Zaiter said the week provides a platform for young people to engage with their community while building confidence and skills.

“Youth Week is all about backing our future leaders to dream big and go after what matters to them,” he said.

“This program creates spaces where young people can connect, build confidence, learn new skills and be part of something bigger in their community.”

Events will be held across a range of locations including libraries, community centres, schools, public spaces and online platforms, with organisers aiming to make the program accessible to a broad audience.

The schedule has been developed through a partnership between council, schools, libraries and community organisations, reflecting a collaborative approach to youth engagement.

Alongside council-led activities, local organisations and youth groups have been supported through funding to deliver their own events. These initiatives are expected to form a central part of the program and highlight the role of young people in shaping activities that reflect their interests.

“We’re proud to support initiatives that not only celebrate our youth but actively involve them in shaping the future of Parramatta,” Cr Zaiter said.

Youth Week is held annually across New South Wales and is designed to recognise the contributions of young people while encouraging participation in community life.

While all events in Parramatta’s program are free, some will require bookings or registration due to capacity limits.

Full details of the Youth Week 2026 program, including event listings and registration information, are available on the City of Parramatta website.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
