Australia has announced its men’s ODI squad for upcoming tours of Zimbabwe and South Africa, along with two Australia A squads for a tour of India later this month.
The National Selection Panel has selected a 17-player ODI squad for six matches across Zimbabwe and South Africa. The series will serve as preparation for next year’s World Cup, which will be held in the same countries.
Mitchell Marsh, Travis Head and Josh Hazlewood return to the ODI squad after missing the most recent series in Pakistan and Bangladesh. Fast bowlers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc will join the squad for the South African leg before the three-match Test series in October.
Marnus Labuschagne has not been selected after being part of the previous ODI squad.
Young batter Oliver Peake and allrounder Joel Davies have retained their places after making their international debuts during the recent tours of Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Chair of Selectors George Bailey said the six-match series would provide an important opportunity to prepare for next year’s World Cup.
“This six-game series is an important lead-in to next year’s World Cup, being played in the same countries, for the group,” Bailey said.
“For Ollie and Joel, who we rate very highly, it’s another fantastic opportunity and a further chance for them to continue their exposure and growth in the Australian team.”
The selection panel has also named Australia A squads for a tour of India, where the side will play two four-day matches and three one-day games against India A in Puducherry.
The four-day squad includes players with international experience such as Peter Handscomb, Brendan Doggett, Sam Konstas, Nathan McSweeney, Todd Murphy and Jhye Richardson.
The one-day squad features several players who have represented Australia in limited-overs cricket, including Mitch Owen, Tanveer Sangha, Spencer Johnson, Aaron Hardie and Nikhil Chaudhary.
Bailey said the India A tour would give players an opportunity to develop their game in subcontinental conditions while competing for future international selection.
“We consider these tours an important part of performance and developing game styles in sub-continent conditions as part of our continued investment into the Australia A program,” he said.
The Australia A squads include a mix of established international players and emerging cricketers. The selection panel said the performances in India would help assess players who could be considered for Australia’s tour of India next year, as well as future international opportunities.

The squad for Australia’s Test series in South Africa in October is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
