Japan recorded an 11–0 victory over India in Perth on Saturday in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup™ Australia 2026, while Chinese Taipei edged Vietnam 1–0 in another Group C match as the tournament schedule moved into its next phase.

Japan delivered a strong attacking display, scoring eleven unanswered goals to maintain momentum in the competition and underline their position among the leading teams in the tournament. India continued to compete throughout the match despite the heavy scoreline.

Chinese Taipei secured a narrow win over Vietnam earlier in the day. A first half goal proved decisive before Chinese Taipei held their lead through a disciplined defensive effort during the second half.

Vietnam continued to press forward in search of an equaliser until the final whistle but were unable to break through.

Sunday’s matches produced further drama, particularly in Sydney where Australia and Korea Republic finished level at 3–3 in the final Group A fixture. The teams traded goals across a high scoring contest before Australia equalised late to secure a draw.

The result allowed Australia to progress to the quarter finals, while Korea Republic finished top of Group A after a strong group stage performance.

Earlier on the Gold Coast, the Philippines defeated Iran 2–0 after scoring once in each half to claim an important group stage victory. Iran remained competitive throughout the match in their final group appearance.

Attention now turns to the remaining fixtures across Perth and Sydney as teams prepare for the final round of group stage matches.

Bangladesh will face Uzbekistan in Perth on Monday at 5pm, followed by DPR Korea against China later that evening in Sydney at 8pm.

Tuesday’s matches will see Japan meet Vietnam in Perth at 5pm, while India will take on Chinese Taipei in Sydney at 8pm.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
