The Federation of Indian Communities of Queensland (FICQ) hosted the much-anticipated Unity Cup 2025, a spectacular celebration of togetherness, diversity, and multicultural harmony. Held in the spirit of sport and friendship, the event brought communities from across Queensland together both on and off the field.
While soccer was at the heart of the competition, the Unity Cup represented much more than the game itself. It was about building bonds, celebrating cultural diversity, and strengthening the sense of belonging that makes Queensland’s multicultural fabric so vibrant.
The event was made truly special by the presence of distinguished guests including Senator Paul Scarr, Margie Nightingale, Councillor Steven Huang, Charis Mullen MP, and Inspector Senior Sergeant Dallas Kowald. Their support and encouragement reflected the importance of unity through sport.
FICQ also expressed heartfelt appreciation to community leaders Habib Jamal (QMI), Lewis Lee OAM (UEMEA), and Mr Faysel Ahmed Selat (QACC) for their guidance and encouragement.
Behind the scenes, the tireless efforts of dedicated volunteers ensured the day’s success. From planning to execution, their hard work and community spirit shone through every aspect of the event.
FICQ further acknowledged the invaluable contributions of all teams, players, coaches, managers, captains, parents, and supporters who came together to make the Unity Cup a grand success.
In the end, the Unity Cup was not just about winning or losing—it was about unity, friendship, and the power of sport to bring people together. The event once again highlighted that unity is our strength, and sport remains a beautiful way to celebrate diversity.
Here’s to many more such celebrations of community spirit in the years ahead.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
