The Victorian Government is opening another round of its Get Active Kids Voucher Program, aiming to ease cost of living pressures on families and encourage more children to take part in community sport.
Minister for Community Sport Ros Spence said registrations are now open for clubs and organisations to become activity providers ahead of Round 9, which begins in October. Being a provider allows families to use vouchers directly with clubs, reducing the need for upfront payments.
Eligible families holding a health care or concession card will be able to apply for vouchers worth up to $200 per child, redeemable at local sporting clubs and organisations. To qualify as a provider, clubs must be affiliated with a recognised State Sporting Association or State Sport and Active Recreation Body.
Since launching in 2020, the program has provided almost 190,000 vouchers to families and has seen 2,100 activity providers register across Victoria. The scheme has supported clubs to boost membership while making it easier for young people to take up sport.
Two rounds will run in 2025–26, with the first opening in October and another scheduled for February 2026. Children up to 18 years old are eligible if they are named on a Commonwealth Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, and listed on a Medicare Card. A special stream is also available for children in care, temporary or provisional visa holders, migrants and international students.
Minister Spence said the program is having a direct impact: “We’re cutting the cost of living for Victorian families with cheaper access to kids sports and activities, helping more get involved in community sport and live a healthy active life. We know the vouchers are making a difference, with almost 20 percent of recipients joining a sports club for the first time ─ that’s thousands of young people getting involved in sport thanks to this program.”
Basketball Victoria’s Chief Operating Officer Ben Pahl said the initiative has transformed access to the sport: “The Get Active Kids Voucher Program has been a game changer for Basketball Victoria with thousands of our participants able to play the game thanks to the support of the program.”
