Hindi Diwas 2026 will be marked in Brisbane on September 12 with a programme featuring Hindi poetry, cultural performances, competitions and free distribution of Hindi editions of the Bhagavad Gita.
The event is being organised by Om Positive Organisers in association with the Consulate General of India, Brisbane. It will be held from 1pm to 3pm at The Polish Club Milton, 10 Marie Street, Milton, Queensland.
The programme will include an essay competition and a poetry competition for children, along with Hindi poetry recitation and recollections. Cultural performances and presentations will form part of the afternoon’s programme.
Organisers have also planned free distribution of the Hindi version of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita to attendees.
Children interested in taking part in the essay or poetry competitions are invited to register before Wednesday, September 2. Participation and event attendance require separate registration.
The event is expected to bring together families and members of Brisbane’s Indian community for an afternoon centred on Hindi language and cultural expression. The programme also provides younger participants with an opportunity to engage with Hindi through writing, poetry and public performance.
Hindi Diwas is observed annually in India on September 14 to mark the adoption of Hindi in the Devanagari script as one of the official languages of the Union of India in 1949. Community events held outside India often use the occasion to encourage the continued use and appreciation of the language among younger generations.
For Brisbane’s Hindi-speaking community, the September programme will combine language activities with cultural presentations in a family setting. The involvement of the Consulate General of India also places the event within the wider network of community and cultural activities supported by Indian diplomatic missions in Australia.
