Sargam Music Academy has secured funding under the Queensland Government’s Celebrating Multicultural Queensland grants program to support its upcoming Diwali celebration at Mount Gravatt Showgrounds.
State Member for Mansfield and Shadow Minister for Child Safety, Communities and the Prevention of Domestic and Family Violence, Corrine McMillan MP, congratulated the organisation following the announcement and met with Sargam Music Academy representative Mithun Chakraborty to mark the grant.
The organisation received $5,000 under Round 2 of the 2025-26 Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program for its Greater Brisbane Festival of Light, Diwali 2026. The Queensland Government’s published list shows Sargam Music Academy among more than 70 organisations receiving support through the round, which distributed more than $500,000 for multicultural events taking place across the state between July and December 2026.
The festival is scheduled for Saturday, 7 November at Mount Gravatt Showgrounds. The Queensland Government’s multicultural events calendar lists the event as free and says bookings are not required.
McMillan said the festival would provide an opportunity for the wider community to come together for Diwali.
“Congratulations to Mithun and Sargam Music Academy,” she said in a social media post. “They are hosting the Festival of Light, Diwali in November at the Mount Gravatt Showgrounds.”
The Celebrating Multicultural Queensland program provides funding for multicultural events and festivals designed to encourage participation, cultural understanding and connections between culturally diverse communities and the broader Queensland community.
For Sargam Music Academy, the grant will contribute towards the delivery of the Greater Brisbane Festival of Light, with the event expected to bring together community members for a public Diwali celebration.
The academy has previously received support through the same Queensland Government program. Its Greater Brisbane Holi Festival was among the events funded in the first round of the 2025-26 program, receiving $5,000.
The upcoming Diwali festival will be held at Mount Gravatt Showgrounds, 1644 Logan Road, Mount Gravatt, with the event listed by the Queensland Government as a free community celebration.
