Mahindra flexes urban ambitions with new Adelaide showroom

Mahindra has launched its latest Adelaide City dealership at 445 North East Road, Hillcrest, opening its doors on 9 July 2025. The event, attended by senior executives including Sachin Arolkar, Head of International Operations, and dealer principal Mark Papillo, drew a crowd during a ribbon-cutting and handover ceremony. This new showroom supports Mahindra’s expanding urban focus.

The Hillcrest site forms part of Mahindra’s growing national footprint, now spanning more than 70 dealerships, a sharp rise from around 50 in 2023. Positioned in a busy automotive corridor, it adds to the brand’s existing South Australian presence, including a service centre in Salisbury Plains.

The showroom debuted the XUV3XO, Mahindra’s smallest SUV launched earlier in July. Priced from $23,490 drive‑away, the compact crossover challenges rivals such as the Mazda CX‑3, MG ZS and Hyundai Venue. It offers dual 10.25‑inch displays, wireless connectivity, six airbags, all‑wheel disc brakes and Level 2 driver‑assistance features. Its 1.2‑litre turbo engine delivers 82 kW and 200 Nm of torque, backed by a six‑speed automatic and a 364‑litre boot. While the base model comes well-equipped, Mahindra notes the initial version lacks a formal ANCAP safety rating, a rating expected after upcoming updates required by 2026 standards.

Mahindra Australia’s performance over the past year has been notable. Using its financial year that ended on 30 June 2025, the company sold 4,185 vehicles—nearly seven times the volume from FY 2022. That performance places it around 30th–32nd nationally, nestled between Mini and Chevrolet according to local sales datasets. The company is targeting a top‑15 position by 2030, requiring annual sales around the 25,000‑unit mark.

The XUV700 and Scorpio have led recent growth. The XUV3XO is expected to become Mahindra’s best-selling model locally, backed by its urban-focused design and sharp pricing. The design studio in Banbury, UK, helped adapt the model for Australian roads. Some industry observers suggest the Australia–India Free Trade Agreement, in effect since late 2022, may also have helped streamline vehicle imports.

Looking ahead, Mahindra plans to reintroduce its Pik‑Up ute in 2026 following recalls tied to safety regulation changes earlier this year. Electric models such as the XEV 9e and BE 6e are being evaluated for launch in Australia down the track.

Initial interest in the XUV3XO appears strong, with dealers reporting enquiries even before test vehicles arrived. How it performs in crash testing and in long-term ownership will likely shape its staying power. For now, Mahindra is making a clear push into the city SUV space, focusing on value and features over brand legacy.
