Editor of The Indian Sun Queensland edition with Red Bull Ampol Racing’s Broc Feeney, following his double victory at the NTI Townsville 500

Broc Feeney has stamped his authority on the 2025 Supercars season with another clinical drive through the streets of Townsville, edging out Red Bull teammate Will Brown to notch his second win in as many days. The 22-year-old now holds a commanding lead in the championship and heads into Ipswich next month as the firm favourite to seal the Sprint Cup.

It wasn’t a straightforward cruise. Brown came hard in the closing laps, briefly looking like he might challenge for the top step, but Feeney kept his head and managed the gap with the calm of a seasoned pro. By the chequered flag, the margin was three seconds.

Behind them, Chaz Mostert, twice a Bathurst 1000 winner, finished third to complete an all-Queenslander podium in North Queensland, with Cam Waters and Matt Payne rounding out the top five. Waters had taken an early lead through strategy but couldn’t hold it once Feeney settled into rhythm.

Feeney’s back-to-back wins in Townsville take his season tally to ten and place him 220 points clear of Brown in the standings. The margin gives him a firm grip on the Sprint Cup ahead of next month’s Ipswich round and a clear shot at locking in the first place in the Supercars Finals.

“It’s been an awesome weekend,” Feeney said in the post-race interview. “Townsville’s always been good to me, and the car just felt dialled in all weekend. Full credit to the team.”

Brown, despite falling short, echoed the positive tone. “We gave it everything. The pace was there, but Broc was too strong in the final stint. Still a great result for the team.”

The event wasn’t just about the racing. Townsville welcomed a crowd of 128,337 over the weekend—the biggest since 2018. Off-track entertainment included PBR Australia’s Tasman Cup and the Summernats Goes Troppo burnout showcase, both proving major crowd-pullers.

The series now heads to the Century Batteries Ipswich Super440 from August 8 to 10, marking Supercars’ first return to Queensland Raceway since 2019. With Feeney, Brown, and Mostert all calling Queensland home, the trio will no doubt enjoy strong support from a home crowd.

For now, though, it’s Feeney who leaves Townsville with the momentum, the points, and the pressure of leading a title race that looks more his to lose with each round.
