Despite ancient India being the birthplace of the Kamasutra, conversations about sex remain largely taboo around dinner tables or weekend BBQs. Unlike the animated debates Indians reserve for Bollywood gossip, cricket scores, mortgages, or the latest on selective school admissions, sex continues to be the one topic that’s awkwardly get swept under the rug.

Rajneesh, also known as Osho, had a radically unconventional take on sex that challenged traditional norms in India. Osho believed that sex is not something sinful, but a natural and powerful energy that can be transformed into spiritual enlightenment.

“Let’s Have Sex!”, the internationally acclaimed play by renowned Russian playwright Valentin Krasnogorov, has captivated audiences across the globe, including packed theatres in India. Known for his sharp wit and ability to explore complex human emotions and societal contradictions, Krasnogorov delivers in this play a bold and satirical commentary on intimacy, relationships, and the absurdities of modern life.

Now, Crescendo Theatre is proudly mounting (pun not intended) this bold, witty, provocative and darkly humorous production on the Sydney stage. It’s a rare and exciting honour for director Jyotsna Sharma to helm this celebrated work, marking its much-anticipated debut in Australia.

The cast comprises of Aparna Tijoriwala, Manny Katts, Haki Pepo Olu Crisden, Aishware Shetty and Poornima Menon.

The play revolves around the theme of sexual frustration and emotional disconnect in contemporary relationships. The central characters, often portrayed as a seemingly ordinary people, attempt to revive their stagnant intimacy by having a frank discussion and negotiation about having sex. What starts as a straightforward proposition quickly devolves into a tangled conversation filled with excuses, societal expectations, personal insecurities, and absurd rationalisations.

This production is as complicated & tragic as it is bitingly amusing! It’s characters are driven by the most basic of human emotions—loneliness, their yearning for love, their desire to escape from their problems.

Foreplay for the brain, fireworks for the soul; this show doesn’t fake it. Get ready for a truly orgasmic experience.
