The Indo-Pacific Space and Earth Conference (IPSEC) 2024, held at Crown Perth, has become a focal point for international collaboration in the space industry. A notable highlight is the inauguration of the India Pavilion by the Consul General, showcasing the growing synergy between Indian and Australian space sectors.
The Satcom Industry Association-India (SIA-India), in partnership with the Western Australian Government, has led a delegation of over ten Indian space companies to the conference. These companies are presenting their capabilities and exploring opportunities for collaboration, aiming to strengthen existing partnerships and forge new alliances within the global space community. Enrico Palermo, Head of the Australian Space Agency, visited the Indian Pavilion and was honoured by SIA-India, underscoring the mutual respect and shared vision between the two nations.
The Consul General engaged with space industry officials and experts, connecting with visiting Indian representatives. He also visited the Australian Remote Operations for Space and Earth (AROSE) consortium, where he was briefed on Australia’s prototype lunar rover, a project that exemplifies Australia’s commitment to advancing space exploration technologies.
The exhibition, running until 28 November 2024, serves as a platform for showcasing innovations and fostering international cooperation. A significant announcement came from Western Australia-based LatConnect60, which revealed a joint project with Indian launch service provider Skyroot Aerospace. This collaboration aims to launch LatConnect60’s first satellite in December 2026. The project has received funding from the Australian Space Agency under its International Space Investment India Projects grant, designed to facilitate joint ventures and strengthen ties between Australian businesses, research organisations, and the Indian space sector.
LatConnect60’s mission involves constructing a Low Earth Orbit satellite in Australia to gather high-resolution data on carbon emissions. The satellite, named SWIRSAT, is slated for launch from India in December 2026. This initiative aligns with global efforts to monitor and mitigate environmental impacts through advanced space technologies.
Skyroot Aerospace, India’s leading aerospace company, specialises in designing and building futuristic space-launch vehicles. It offers on-demand, cost-effective, and reliable launch services for the global small and medium satellite market. Skyroot’s vision of ‘Opening Space For All’ reflects its commitment to making space accessible and affordable.
