Fed Square is gearing up for a spectacular October, packed with a rich assortment of events, performances, and unique experiences. Among the month’s highlights, the Diwali Festival on 26 October promises to be a shining beacon of cultural festivities in Melbourne.
The Victorian Festival of Diwali will light up the square with vibrant cultural performances, music, and interactive activities. Diwali, the festival of lights, symbolises the victory of good over evil, and this year’s celebration will be a true reflection of that theme. Visitors can look forward to a bustling bazaar, dance workshops, kids’ crafts, and henna art.
The aromas of Indian cuisine will fill the air, offering a mouth-watering selection of dishes to indulge in. The evening will wrap up with a stunning fireworks display over the Yarra River, lighting up the city skyline. With so many surprises in store, Diwali at Fed Square is set to be an unforgettable experience for all ages.
The excitement doesn’t end with Diwali. Fed Square has a host of other events throughout the month, ensuring there’s something for everyone.
From the 1st to the 20th of October, Cooked by Long Prawn, part of the Fringe Festival, takes centre stage. This pop-up event brings together the art of grilling with live performances and snacks. It includes “Seasoning the Grill,” a First Nations-led BBQ takeover, and evenings filled with culinary creativity, combining chefs and artists for a unique cultural fusion.
On 6 October, the 2024 Victorian Seniors Festival Celebration Day will pay tribute to older Victorians. The event promises lively music and dance performances by older artists, as well as engaging workshops. A mass ukulele performance, featuring players from across the state, will take place in the Main Square, adding a delightful twist to the celebrations.
Music lovers can enjoy free jazz performances on the 18 and 19 October, as the Melbourne International Jazz Festival hits Fed Square. The weekend will be filled with soul-soothing jazz, with performances spilling out onto Melbourne’s streets, concert halls, and stages, making it a city-wide musical celebration.
Fashion aficionados can join the conversation on 23 October during Melbourne Conversations: Dopamine Dressers. Hosted by stylist Sally Mackinnon, this event, part of Melbourne Fashion Week, explores bold fashion choices and celebrates designers who bring colour and texture to the runway. Light refreshments will be provided, and entry is free with prior registration.
Whether it’s the vibrant colours of Diwali, the smoky charm of a BBQ, or the soulful notes of jazz, Fed Square’s October lineup is bursting with events that promise to entertain, engage, and delight. The month will bring people together in celebration, creativity, and joy.
