Children from the community took centre stage with an energetic portrayal of the story of Lord Ganesha

The Cairns Hindu Samaj hosted a heartwarming Ganeshotsav on 7th September 2024, uniting community members in devotion and celebration at Caravonica State School. The event, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the deity known for removing obstacles and bestowing prosperity, was filled with music, culture, and spiritual reverence.

Kicking off the festivities, a grand Ganesh Puja and Nav Grah Puja were led by Pandit Shri Bharat Solanki, Head Priest of the Shree Vishnu Maya Temple in Brisbane. His rituals, accompanied by sacred chants, created an atmosphere of peace and devotion, offering attendees an opportunity to reflect and seek blessings.

Children from the community took centre stage with an energetic portrayal of the story of Lord Ganesha. Their performance delighted the audience, receiving applause for the vibrant retelling of Ganesha’s legends, a key highlight of the day.

Pandit Ji added another layer to the event’s spiritual depth with an evocative sitar recital, filling the air with soul-stirring melodies. The music allowed attendees to connect through art, creating a serene and meditative experience.

The celebration reflected the unity and cultural pride within the Cairns Hindu Samaj. Organisers and volunteers were warmly appreciated for their dedication in bringing the community together for this joyful occasion.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
