Local community groups and not-for-profit organisations in Truganina, Tarneit, and Williams Landing are encouraged to apply for the Westbrook Community Fund 2024.

Whether you have a new project in mind or need support to continue an existing initiative, the Westbrook Community Fund offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact. Successful applicants will receive a grant of $1,500, with the total funding pool exceeding $35,000.

Dennis Family Corporation Marketing Manager, Melissa Munro, expressed her excitement for the upcoming initiative. “We are thrilled to contribute to empowering local groups that foster positive change and enrich lives,” Melissa said.

“The Westbrook Community Fund is not just about financial assistance; it’s about building a stronger, more connected community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.”

Since its inception in 2018, the Westbrook Community Fund has awarded over $180,000 to local community groups. Nandini Biskunda and Venkat Ram Reddy Upparlapalle, founders of the Women’s Multicultural Empowerment Network (WMEN) and one of the 25 recipients in 2023, shared their gratitude.

“The 2023 funding from Westbrook Community Fund has been instrumental in empowering women in our community. It allowed us to expand our programs and make a tangible difference in many lives,” Nandini said.

Venkat added, “Thanks to the support from Westbrook, we were able to launch new initiatives that have provided critical resources and support to women striving for better opportunities.”

The annual Westbrook Community Fund has been a cornerstone of community support in the Truganina, Tarneit, and Williams Landing areas since its inception in 2018. The Fund has supported a variety of projects, ranging from cultural celebrations and educational programs to environmental initiatives and health and wellness activities.

Each grant has played a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents and promoting a sense of belonging and pride within the community. In 2023, the Westbrook Community Fund awarded $35,000 in grants to a diverse array of local groups, reflecting its commitment to supporting initiatives that address a wide range of community needs.

Applications are open from Tuesday, 16th July, and close on Tuesday, 20th August.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
