North America’s cricket scene is buzzing as GT20 Canada 2024 is set to kick off in Brampton, Ontario from July 25 to August 11. This year’s tournament promises an impressive lineup of international and local cricketing talents.
Australia’s David Warner and Marcus Stoinis, along with Pakistan’s Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, headline the list of international stars. Joining them are Caribbean talents Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, and the Afghan duo Mohammad Nabi and Naveen-ul-Haq.
GT20 Canada, now a fixture on the North American and global cricket calendars, continues to be a key platform for cricket in the region. The league aims to build a robust cricketing ecosystem, as emphasised by Gurmeet Singh Bhamrah, Founder of GT20 Canada. Bhamrah highlighted the league’s role in fostering cricket’s growth by providing opportunities for local talents to play alongside international stars.

The tournament will feature six franchises, each with a mix of players from ICC Full Member nations, Associate nations, and local Canadian cricketers. This blend ensures a high level of competition and promotes the development of cricket in Canada. The entire Canadian national squad, including captain Saad Bin Zafar and top run-scorer Nicholas Kirton, will participate, showcasing their skills on a grand stage.
Joy Bhattacharya, CEO of GT20 Canada, expressed excitement about the league’s potential to inspire new generations of players and fans. He pointed out that the inclusion of global superstars alongside local talents is a strategic move to establish cricket as a major sport in North America.
The detailed schedule of the tournament will be announced soon, but the anticipation is already building. Cricket fans in North America and around the world can look forward to a spectacular display of talent and competition.
