Pavithra Sridhar’s Bharatanatyam Arangetram, held on 16 March 2024 at the Dandenong Drum Theatre, was a splendid display of dedication, talent, and tradition. The event marked the culmination of years of rigorous training and the graduation of Pavithra as a proficient Bharatanatyam dancer.

Pavithra has been a committed student of the Natya Kala Mandir, where she honed her skills under the guidance of the illustrious Smt. Sujatha Surrendran. The Arangetram showcased eight meticulously prepared dances, including Pushpanjali, Kohala Narthana Ganapathy, Guru Vandanam, Varnam, Ardanishwaram, Mahakali keerthanam, Thillana, and Thamarai Ondru Malar. Each performance was a testament to her perseverance and the intensive preparation spanning over two years.

The event was graced by the presence of renowned accompanying artists, including Shri Ahilan Sivanandan (vocalist), Shri Ramanathan Srinivasan (mridangam artist), Shri Murali Kumar (violinist), Shri Ramani Thiagarajan (flautist), and Aarthika Surendran (Nattuvangam support). Their contributions added depth and vibrancy to the performance, creating an enchanting atmosphere.

Pavithra’s journey in Bharatanatyam began in 2009, and since 2017, she has been under the tutelage of Guru Smt. Sujatha Surrendran. The guidance and talent of her guru have been invaluable in shaping her into the accomplished dancer she is today.

The event was a memorable occasion, not only for Pavithra and her family but also for the approximately 400 individuals who filled the theatre. The energy and support of the audience were truly indescribable, adding to the joy and fulfilment of this significant milestone in Pavithra’s artistic journey.

Pavithra’s Arangetram is a reflection of her unwavering dedication to the art of Bharatanatyam. It serves as an inspiration to aspiring dancers and a reminder of the beauty and depth of this traditional dance form.
