Diverse connections have always been Townsville’s pride, and for Les Walker MP, Member for Mundingburra, it’s no different.

“Having the privilege of calling many from the Indian community my friends, I’ve been enchanted by their tales,” shares Walker. These narratives, deeply rooted in tradition, have added layers of depth to our shared conversations, creating an inspiring bond that bridges continents.

As you stroll through Townsville, it’s evident—our Indian friends have painted vibrant strokes in every sector. Be it Health, Legal Services, or even the lively beats in our entertainment, their diligence and expertise shine through.

While Townsville boasts of hosting 220 unique cultures, the Indian community has etched a distinctive mark with its mesmerising festivals, delectable dishes, foot-tapping music, and spirited dances. Their vivacity not only brightens our city but also amplifies its multicultural rhythm.

As we stand on the cusp of the 2023 edition of India Fest, Walker is all geared up for another cultural fiesta. “This fest is a true embodiment of the dynamism the Indian community brings to our lives. And while I eagerly await the splendid array of colors and cultures, it’s those fiery curries that have a special place in my heart,” he adds with a chuckle.

So, are you marking your calendars for this cultural extravaganza? Because Les Walker MP surely is, and he hopes to see you there, sharing in the festivities and forging stronger community bonds.

India Fest Townsville 2023 is scheduled for 26 August at Riverway from 10am to 9pm. More info here.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
