The Indian Association Cardinia Casey (IACC) hosted rocking Diwali celebrations at Gumbuya World on the evening of Saturday, 10 November, which attracted a crowd of 2,500 plus families.

Gumbuya World is Victoria’s newest Theme Park, offering Worlds of Fun, Adventure, and a chance to get up-close to incredible Native Australian Wildlife.

This was most probably the first “Theme park Diwali event in Australia”. The event aimed to unite all communities in harmony and dispense the flamboyant and vibrant Indian culture into Australian society.

There was a small formal part as well in the evening. The guests of honour for the event were Mr Jason Wood MP (Federal Member for La Trobe); Mr Brad Battin MLA (Shadow Minister for the Building Industry, and Emergency Services); Mr Nitin Gupta (Former Ministerial Adviser); and Cr Colin Ross (Mayor—City of Cardinia).

AFL Ambassador and AIBC Member Mrs Neha Soudagar was the MC for the evening. She kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the program duration.

Prominent members of Victorian Indian community such as Cranbourne socialite Mr Aravind Putta; Mrs Anchal Agarwal (AIFI); Mr Ali Mohammad (Planet Finance); Mr Karthik Arasu (FIA); Mr Arpit Dholakia (PLFS); Miss Arushi Nagpal (Phillip Webb Real Estate); and various others also joined in the celebrations.

The whole evening was an exuberant affair with Indian Music/Bollywood tunes, fine selection of Indian delicacies, myriad of cultural performances that entertained the desi and multicultural crowd, thrilling rides and extensive Australian wildlife at Gumbuya World.

The highlight of the event was a brilliant laser-show synchronised with a performance of Marathi dhol, to end the night on a high. The Lavani dance performed by energetic kids from Glen Waverley was clearly the most cheered performance for the evening.

This was merely not yet another Diwali event, but an effort to open up the gateway to regional Victoria and promote Cardinia shire tourism and wildlife.

The supporters and sponsors for the event were Planet Insurance and Financial Planning, Bansal Immigration, Punjabi Bazaar (Pakenham), Edu-Kingdom Officer, Lavish Looks Studio, MBP Accountants, Terri Fellows (Barry Plant Pakenham), Star Motorworks (Pakenham), Spices Smiles, Deep’s Driving School, Marvs Travel Group, Pulse Electrics, Jason Wood MP, Cardinia Shire, and significant others.

Former ministerial adviser Mr Nitin Gupta commented: “It was a great initiative to host Diwali at Gumbuya World. I would like to congratulate the whole team of IACC, specially their multi-talented President Aanchal Mahajan, for all their efforts in putting together this unique and massive Diwali celebration. Hopefully it would become an annual event, and there would be funding announcements not just from the Multicultural events budget, but also from the regional tourism budget allocations as this event does clearly promote tourism in regional Victoria.”
