AFL’s ‘Embracing India’ team try yoga to up wellbeing quotient
Shavita teaching Essendon players Yoga

Health and wellbeing coach Shavita Kotak joined forces with Essendon Football Club last week as part of their ongoing ‘Embracing India’ campaign launched to engage the local Indian community with Australian Rules Football.

At an event on Tuesday, 8 August, Shavita took the Essendon players and staff through a yoga workshop demonstrating the benefits that ancient yoga and meditation techniques can bring to their daily health regime.

An Australian resident since 1999, Melbourne-based Shavita is a leading health & wellbeing coach who honours her Indian spiritual roots in her own everyday life. She’s dedicated to teaching her clients the benefits of these traditions in a fast-paced world.

“I decided to go to India to do a yoga teacher training course. I thought yoga was just a little stretching and meditation—easy—but I was very wrong”

After many years climbing the corporate ladder to financial success, Shavita came to realise success did not translate to inner happiness. That’s why Shavita embarked on her own spiritual journey in 2003 where she spent six months living in India following the teachings of some of the most profound Indian teachers.

“I decided to leave my job as a financial planner and make health my priority. However, I had no idea where to start. I decided to go to India to do a yoga teacher training course. I thought yoga was just a little stretching and meditation—easy—but I was very wrong,” says Shavita.

“The time I spent in India challenged all my beliefs in the most profound way. I discovered the importance of mind, body, soul and spirit working together. I followed different teachers around the country and learnt as much as I could,” she says.

Shavita now coaches Australian clients who are looking for true inner happiness. “I was delighted to be asked to work with Essendon Football Club to be part of AFL’s initiative,” says Shavita.

We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
