Families and devotees on the Sunshine Coast will come together in Mooloolaba on 26 September for Sunshine Coast Ganeshotsav 2026, a community celebration centred on prayer, traditional music and Ganesh Puja.
Hosted by Aditya Utsav Mandal, the event will be held at Mooloolaba State School from 4.30pm to 8pm, with organisers inviting families, friends and members of the wider community to take part.
The annual festival will welcome Lord Ganesha, who is traditionally worshipped as the remover of obstacles and associated with wisdom, prosperity and auspicious beginnings.
The programme will feature Ganesh Puja and a traditional Aarti recital, giving devotees time for prayer and reflection. Traditional Dhol and Taasha performances will add music to the evening, while Prasad and Visarjan will form part of the closing rituals.
For Indian-Australian families, community festivals can provide an opportunity to maintain cultural and religious traditions while introducing younger generations to practices that have been passed down through families.
Organisers say the Sunshine Coast celebration is intended to create a welcoming setting for people of different ages and backgrounds, while giving devotees an opportunity to observe Ganeshotsav close to home.
The event also provides an opportunity for children and young people to experience the festival alongside parents, grandparents and other community members. For those unfamiliar with the tradition, the programme offers a chance to see the prayers, music and rituals associated with Ganeshotsav.
The celebration is being supported through community participation, with the event poster also inviting RSVP registrations and sponsorship enquiries.
Sunshine Coast Ganeshotsav 2026 will take place on Saturday, 26 September, at Mooloolaba State School, 15 Meta Street, Mooloolaba.
The event will run from 4.30pm to 8pm. The listed programme includes Dhol and Taasha, Ganesh Puja, Aarti, Prasad and Visarjan.
