Indian visa, passport and consular services will resume across Australia from 23 July after weeks of disruption, with VFS Global reopening operations through a network of upgraded centres in six capital cities.
The High Commission of India in Canberra announced that VFS Global will begin providing Consular, Passport and Visa (CPV) services from Wednesday, 23 July, marking the end of a suspension that had left thousands of applicants unable to lodge new applications.
The services will operate from newly established Indian Consular Application Centres (ICACs) in Adelaide, Brisbane, Canberra, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney.
The announcement follows legal proceedings in India that delayed the rollout of VFS Global’s renewed outsourcing contract. The Indian Sun previously reported that the suspension stemmed from litigation over the Ministry of External Affairs’ overseas consular outsourcing tender process, which temporarily prevented the new contract from taking effect.
The upgraded centres have been established to meet growing demand for Indian consular services in Australia, with improved facilities and infrastructure.
The six centres are located at Suite 8.01, Level 8, 111 Gawler Place, Adelaide; Suite 0201, Level 2, 127 Creek Street, Brisbane; Level 6, 40 Marcus Clarke Street, Canberra; Ground Floor, 324 St Kilda Road, Melbourne; Ground Floor, 23 Barrack Street, Perth; and Level 9, 22-24 Market Street, Sydney.
All centres will operate from 8.30am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, excluding Australian public holidays and holidays observed by the High Commission of India or the relevant Consulate General.
Applicants are encouraged to book appointments online before visiting a centre.
The High Commission also reminded applicants that VFS Global is the only authorised service provider for Indian passport, visa and consular services in Australia.
The reopening is expected to clear a backlog of visa, passport renewal and Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) applications that accumulated during the suspension.
