Parramatta’s CBD will host a day of free football themed activities for families later this month, with the return of Parra Play in the City as part of the city’s first Midwinter Festival.

The event, organised through a partnership between the City of Parramatta and the Parramatta Eels, will take place at Centenary Square on Thursday 16 July during the school holidays. Visitors can take part in interactive games including inflatable challenges, ball passing competitions and a colouring station, with appearances from Eels players also planned throughout the afternoon.

City of Parramatta Lord Mayor Martin Zaiter said the event adds another attraction for families visiting the city during the winter break.

“Families are in for a treat with Parra Play in the City scheduled during our new Midwinter Festival, bringing more activities and experiences to explore this winter school holidays,” Cr Zaiter said.

He said more than 2,000 people attended last year’s event and Council expects another strong turnout this year.

“We welcome visitors from near or far to come along and spend the day in Parramatta, enjoy the fantastic Midwinter experiences and grab a bite nearby at our eateries and restaurants,” he said.

Parramatta Eels chief executive officer Jim Sarantinos said the club looked forward to returning to the city centre for the community event.

“Parra Play in the City is a fantastic opportunity for us to connect with families and young fans in the heart of Parramatta during the school holidays,” Mr Sarantinos said.

“As Western Sydney’s team, we’re proud to partner with the City of Parramatta to deliver free, accessible activities that bring our community together, encourage participation in sport and create memorable experiences for local families.”

The event forms part of an ongoing partnership between the City of Parramatta and the Parramatta Eels, which also includes free sporting clinics for young people, the Rising Women of Western Sydney scholarship program and initiatives designed to encourage more people to visit the city.

Parra Play in the City will be held from 12pm to 4pm on Thursday 16 July at Centenary Square, outside Peter Wynn’s store. The event is free and open to all ages.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.
