nti-mass migration campaigners associated with the March for Australia movement have used social media to organise a protest in Melbourne on Thursday, coinciding with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day visit to Australia.

Promotional material shared by Aus Pill and other anti-mass migration accounts on X calls for a protest beginning at 2.30pm on Thursday. While one poster identifies Marvel Stadium as the protest location, accompanying posts instruct supporters to gather outside the Department of Home Affairs office at 808 Bourke Street, Docklands, before marching to the stadium, where the sold-out Melbourne Meets Modi community event will be held later that day.

The promotional material describes the demonstration as a “peaceful but loud protest” and says participants will march towards Marvel Stadium as thousands of members of Melbourne’s Indian community arrive for the event.

While The Indian Sun has verified the authenticity of the social media posts, it could not independently verify the expected attendance at the protest or whether Victoria Police had been formally notified of the planned demonstration.

Modi is due to arrive in Melbourne tonight for a visit that includes the Australia–India Annual Leaders’ Summit with Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, an Australia–India Economic Roadmap Business Reception, a ceremonial welcome at Government House Victoria, a meeting with Governor-General Sam Mostyn, a visit to the Melbourne Cricket Ground and a major community event at Marvel Stadium.

The Melbourne Meets Modi event is expected to attract tens of thousands of members of Australia’s Indian community. Albanese and Modi are scheduled to address the gathering, with cultural performances planned before the official proceedings.

Several social media accounts promoting Thursday’s protest have previously expressed support for the March for Australia movement and have advocated lower migration levels under the banner of “remigration”. The movement argues Australia should significantly reduce immigration and reverse recent migration trends.

The protest campaign has sought to frame Modi’s visit within Australia’s migration debate, with posts criticising Indian migration and accusing Australian leaders of placing foreign interests ahead of Australians. Neither the Australian nor Indian government has publicly supported those claims.

The planned protest comes as other groups, including human rights advocates, have also indicated they intend to demonstrate during Modi’s visit, citing concerns about civil liberties, religious freedom and minority rights in India.

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.
