Community leaders, sporting clubs and local government representatives have gathered for the inaugural Springfield Sports Collective, as organisations across one of Queensland’s fastest-growing regions push for better sporting infrastructure and long-term planning.

The meeting, hosted by Queensland MP Charis Mullen, brought together representatives from more than 20 sporting clubs and community organisations to discuss how Springfield can meet rising demand for sporting facilities as its population continues to grow.

Clubs raised concerns about access to quality infrastructure, improved facilities and planning needed to support increasing participation across a wide range of sports.

The gathering encouraged collaboration between sporting organisations, community groups and local government, with discussions focused on ensuring future investment keeps pace with Springfield’s growth.

Attention also turned to the opportunities created by the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, with participants highlighting the need for sporting infrastructure that continues to serve local communities long after the event.

Representatives from Jacob Madsen and Paul Tully outlined council initiatives and future planning, giving attendees an overview of how local government and community organisations can work together to improve sporting facilities and participation across the region.

Multicultural sporting organisations were among those attending, reflecting Springfield’s diverse and growing population. Their involvement highlighted the contribution community-led clubs make in encouraging participation in sport, healthy lifestyles and social connection across different cultural communities and age groups.

Organisers said the inaugural Springfield Sports Collective marked the beginning of a coordinated approach to advocating for sporting investment and ensuring local clubs have a stronger collective voice as the region expands.

The meeting also established a platform for ongoing cooperation between sporting organisations, community groups and local government as Springfield prepares for future population growth and the opportunities linked to the 2032 Olympic Games.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.
