Canberra organisations Integrated Cultures ACT Inc. and CHERISHH Inc. will host two public events in June to mark International Day of Yoga, bringing together health professionals, yoga practitioners and community members for discussions on wellbeing, mindfulness and cultural connection.
The events, organised under the theme Unity in Diversity, are being presented by Integrated Cultures ACT Inc. and CHERISHH Inc., formerly known as the Integrated Women’s Network. The programme includes an in person forum in Belconnen and an online session later in the week.
The first event will take place on Sunday 14 June at the Canberra Labor Club in Belconnen. Speakers including Robyn Lewis, Indu Narayan, Subhash Dang and Sonam Batra will discuss yoga, Ayurveda, the vagus nerve and physiotherapy, with organisers aiming to encourage practical conversations around physical and mental wellbeing.

The second event, scheduled online for Thursday 18 June, will feature Alan Goode, Director of Yoga Mandir in Canberra, speaking on the topic “Yoga beyond Arsenal: What is Yoga really?”. The session is expected to explore yoga beyond physical exercise and examine its broader philosophical and personal dimensions.
International Day of Yoga is observed globally on 21 June following a United Nations resolution adopted in 2014 recognising yoga’s universal appeal and its role in promoting health and wellbeing.
Organisers say the Canberra events are designed to create accessible spaces for learning and discussion while also strengthening community ties across cultures and generations. The programme has drawn support from a range of local community and media groups including People Powered Radio 2XX FM, Radio Harmony, Radio Gender Equity Matters, Thamizhkummalam, Amarsanskriti, Her I Link and Go Equal.

The Belconnen event will run from 11am to 3pm, with lunch and refreshments included in the $15 booking fee. The online session on 18 June is free, though registration is required for access to the Zoom link.
Bookings and further information are available through ICACT and CHERISHH organisers at Integrated Cultures ACT.

Support Independent Community Journalism
Dear Reader,The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.
We operate independently.
Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.
When you support The Indian Sun, you support:
• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers
We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.
Please consider making a contribution today.
Thank you for your support.
