Shakti Global marked its first anniversary with an evening filled with culture, reflection, and a deep sense of community at Broadbeach Community Centre. Over the past year, the Gold Coast-based non-profit has built a platform focused on physical, mental, spiritual, and social well-being, guided by the principles of dharma.
From Vedantic lectures to social support initiatives, Shakti Global has created a space where inclusivity and empowerment take centre stage. The Indian Sun, a long-time supporter of the organisation, recognises its dedication to service and the impact it has made in fostering harmony.
The event drew a distinguished gathering, including Swami Atmeshananda ji from the Vedanta Centre Brisbane, Assistant Minister for Multicultural Affairs Hermann Vorster, Federal MP Angie Bell, and other notable community leaders. Their presence reinforced the organisation’s role in bringing together diverse voices for a shared cause.
Aunty Justine Dillon, Elder from the Kombumerri Indigenous Community, delivered a heartfelt Welcome to Country, setting the tone for the evening. The opening prayer by Dr. Sushma Naik added a spiritual depth that resonated with attendees. Voices from the community poured in with appreciation for the work done by Shakti Global, highlighting its role in uniting people and supporting those affected by domestic violence.
Cultural performances added to the evening’s warmth and spirit. A mesmerising Bharatanatyam recital by Ishwaralaya Kalaikoodam, soulful mantra chanting by Sushma Mataji, and a dynamic Bhangra performance led by Kulvinder brought energy to the celebrations. The decision by Aunty Justine and young Lily to wear Indian attire as a mark of respect was a moment that stood out, symbolising the harmony that Shakti Global strives to cultivate.
A highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Community Empowerment Award to Mrs. Vinitha Raj Kumar of Rhythm India School of Dance, recognising her dedication to preserving Indian classical and folk arts. A moving rendition of ‘RAINBOW’ by Ayati Gorm encapsulated the spirit of resilience and unity that defines the organisation.
As Shakti Global steps into its second year, it carries forward the goodwill and encouragement of a growing community. The evening closed with a heartfelt vote of thanks from Dr. Asha Sadasivan, acknowledging the volunteers, performers, and supporters who have helped shape the organisation’s journey.
With unwavering commitment, Shakti Global continues to build a movement of love, strength, and transformation. The first year has set the foundation for much more to come.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
