The doors of Good News Lutheran College’s new Mambourin campus swung open this week, welcoming its first group of students. After nearly a year of construction, the school began operations as scheduled, marking the start of its journey in Melbourne’s western growth corridor.

Nestled within Frasers Property Australia’s Mambourin community, the school is set to accommodate 1,500 students from Prep to Grade 12 across its 6.8-hectare site. For now, 362 eager learners from Prep to Grade Six have stepped into more than 30 purpose-built classrooms, with additional facilities to be added over the next decade.

Before this campus was ready, students attended classes at the college’s existing Tarneit site. Now, they have a space of their own, designed to grow alongside them. Play areas, specialist learning spaces and a masterplan for future development ensure the school will evolve to meet the needs of its students.

Parents dropping off their children for the first time were invited to a Coffee and Muffin Morning at Little Growling Café, located at the community’s Club Mambourin. More than 100 parents attended, sharing conversations over warm drinks, as they got to know the school and each other.

Good News Lutheran College Principal Fiona McAuliffe said the expansion into Mambourin was driven by a commitment to providing Christian education in the fast-growing western suburbs.

“We’re so excited to get started and to see these children make this school their own. In years to come they’ll be able to proudly say that they were the very first students at what will be an educational facility of excellence and inclusion,” she said.

Frasers Property Australia’s General Manager Development Victoria, Sarah Bloom, welcomed the addition of the school to Mambourin’s expanding list of community features.

“The school joins three established parks, exclusive residents’ centre Club Mambourin and the newly opened Aspire Early Learning childcare centre. Soon, it will sit alongside Mambourin Marketplace, which will feature a Coles supermarket and a mix of retail and specialty stores,” she said.

“Perhaps more than any other facility, a school is a glue that can knit a community together, so we couldn’t be happier to see Good News Lutheran College open its doors.”

Mambourin is already home to more than 800 residents, with the community expected to grow to over 1,400 households.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.
