Ballarat Wildlife Park has become the talk of the town with the arrival of nine baby inland taipans, the world’s most venomous snakes. Thanks to a carefully managed breeding programme featuring proud reptile parents Elvis and Priscilla, these elusive hatchlings are now taking their first public bow. Visitors to the park have a rare chance to see them up close during a special 2 PM daily presentation.

Keepers demonstrate how these lightning-quick snakes are safely handled, offering fascinating insights into their behaviour and care. Their venom, potent enough to incapacitate over 100 men, adds a layer of intrigue to the experience, though the hatchlings are kept securely separated for everyone’s safety.

Adding a touch of flair to the event is Jack Gatto, Head of the Reptile Department and an accomplished Elvis impersonator. Gatto combines his passion for wildlife with his performance skills, captivating visitors with stories of the breeding success, the snakes’ survival instincts, and the challenges of caring for such shy and reclusive creatures.

The breeding programme is part of the park’s broader conservation efforts, ensuring these rare animals are nurtured in a controlled and supportive environment. The newborn taipans are closely monitored, reflecting the care and expertise that has become a hallmark of Ballarat Wildlife Park.

Families, wildlife enthusiasts, and the simply curious are flocking to witness these extraordinary creatures, all while learning about the park’s role in protecting and preserving their species. With education at the heart of every presentation, the park is turning fearsome predators into a source of fascination.

Visitors can enjoy the daily reptile show and leave with a deeper appreciation for one of nature’s most incredible creations—alongside a touch of rock ‘n’ roll charm.
