For over 20 years, Kumon Kirwan has been helping Townsville students excel in Mathematics and English, building not only academic skills but also confidence and independence. Led by instructor Peta Bird, the Kirwan centre is more than a tutoring service—it’s a stepping stone for young learners to thrive well beyond the classroom.

Kumon’s individualised approach allows students to work at their own pace, often studying material years ahead of their school grade. Peta shares that many children in Kirwan are tackling content up to five years beyond their age level, fostering persistence and a strong motivation to succeed. This method ensures students catch up where needed and empowers them to push forward, setting the foundation for future accomplishments.

Parents frequently notice remarkable transformations in their children. Even as young as four or five, students at the Kirwan centre develop focus, organisation, and a determination to give their best effort. These qualities extend beyond academics, equipping children with skills they’ll carry through life.

The Kirwan centre also prioritises flexibility, accommodating families’ busy schedules with in-person sessions, Zoom classes, and video call support. This adaptability ensures that learning remains consistent and accessible, no matter the circumstances.

Kumon Kirwan has embraced innovation with the introduction of Kumon Connect, a digital platform that modernises its traditional worksheets. This initiative provides students with electronic access to materials, blending Kumon’s proven methods with the conveniences of technology.

Peta Bird and her team remain dedicated to helping every child reach their potential. For families curious about the programmes, the Kirwan centre offers a welcoming environment where students can thrive.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
