Tennis enthusiasts heading to Melbourne Park for the 2025 Australian Open can enjoy free travel and additional public transport services, ensuring a smooth journey to the action.
Acting Minister for Public and Active Transport Colin Brooks announced 4,500 extra services on Route 70a trams, which will run every two to three minutes during peak times, shuttling ticket holders and staff for free throughout the two-week event.
For the first time, night buses will operate from Federation Square 40 minutes after play ends on select routes, with limited services running until 2:00 am from Sunday to Thursday. Regular night network services will be available on weekends.
Fans traveling via Flinders Street Station can hop on a tram to Melbourne Park or take a scenic walk across the Tanderrum Bridge to Garden Square. Richmond Station, a short walk along Olympic Boulevard, provides access to the Grand Slam Entrance, while Jolimont Station offers a stroll through Yarra Park.
Bus Route 246 between Elsternwick and Clifton Hill also stops at Olympic Boulevard on Punt Road, offering another option for fans.
Acting Minister for Public and Active Transport Colin Brooks said, “The Australian Open is one of the largest sporting events in the world—and our world’s largest tram network will help people get there. We’re making it easier for thousands of tennis fans to get to and from Melbourne Park using public transport.”
Last year, nearly 500,000 tram trips were made to the tournament, highlighting its popularity among the record 1,020,763 attendees.
The 2025 Australian Open main draw runs from 12–26 January. For detailed travel information, visit ptv.vic.gov.au.
