Australia’s Women’s Cricket Team is ready to defend their Ashes title, with a squad combining seasoned champions and rising stars. The National Selection Panel has unveiled the line-up for the white-ball matches in the CommBank Women’s Ashes Series, promising an exciting showdown with England, one of cricket’s fiercest rivals.

The squad includes 13 players for the three One-Day Internationals, while dynamic all-rounder Grace Harris will join for the T20 fixtures. A separate squad will be announced ahead of the much-anticipated Day-Night Test match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground—the first women’s Test at the venue in 75 years.

Australia will be led by Alyssa Healy, with Tahlia McGrath serving as vice-captain. The team features a mix of seasoned campaigners, including Ellyse Perry and Megan Schutt, alongside young talents like Georgia Voll, who is set to experience her first Ashes series.

National Selector Shawn Flegler expressed confidence in the team’s readiness after strong performances in recent series against India and New Zealand. Healy’s return to form and the team’s batting depth have bolstered Australia’s chances of retaining the Ashes. Flegler also highlighted the variety within the bowling line-up, essential for countering England’s powerful batting.

Sophie Molineux remains unavailable due to a knee injury and will undergo surgery next month. Physiotherapist Kate Beerworth confirmed updates on her recovery would follow the procedure.

The multi-format series will award points across three ODIs, three T20Is, and a Test match. Each limited-overs win earns two points, while a Test win is worth four. The team with the most points at the end claims the Ashes—a trophy Australia has held since 2015.

Fans can catch the action live on multiple platforms, including the Seven Network, Fox Cricket, and Kayo Sports. Tickets are available at cricket.com.au.

The opening ODI is set to take place at North Sydney Oval on 12 January, followed by matches at Melbourne’s Junction Oval and Hobart’s Bellerive Oval. The T20 series kicks off at the SCG on 20 January, with further matches in Canberra and Adelaide. The Test match will conclude the series at the MCG from 30 January to 2 February.

The stage is set for another chapter in the storied Ashes rivalry. With two world-class teams battling for supremacy, the series promises to captivate cricket fans across the globe.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.
