Victoria and Japan unite to exchange ideas on fostering inclusive communities and supporting multicultural integration

A delegation from the Japan Local Government Centre (JLGC) recently met with representatives from the Victorian Multicultural Commission (VMC) and the Department of Premier and Cabinet (DPC) to exchange ideas on how best to support immigrants and refugees. The meeting offered both sides a chance to discuss approaches to cultural diversity and stakeholder collaboration.

The JLGC, which represents local authorities across Japan, explored how Victoria’s policies are tailored to foster inclusion and celebrate its multicultural fabric. This provided a platform for discussing ways to build bridges between government initiatives and the needs of diverse communities.

The Victorian Multicultural Commission shared how it identifies and addresses concerns raised by multicultural groups. By working closely with the government, the VMC ensures public services are accessible and reflective of Victoria’s commitment to embracing diversity.

The Department of Premier and Cabinet detailed its role in creating policies that strengthen social cohesion. By bringing together various stakeholders, the department helps ensure that every voice is heard in shaping inclusive policies for the state.

This cross-cultural dialogue between Victoria and Japan highlights the benefits of international collaboration. Sharing practical solutions and learning from each other allows both regions to refine their approaches to building harmonious and inclusive communities.

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.

Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,
