Australia’s cinematic prowess is taking centre stage at the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, running from 20th to 28th November 2024. Honoured as the ‘Country of Focus,’ Australia is showcasing a diverse array of films and talent, reflecting its rich storytelling heritage and contemporary narratives.

The festival commenced with the Asia premiere of “Better Man,” directed by Michael Gracey. This semi-autobiographical film offers an intimate portrayal of British pop icon Robbie Williams’s journey.

A curated selection of seven Australian films is being presented, spanning genres from acclaimed dramas to compelling documentaries and engaging comedies. This lineup aims to highlight Australia’s unique cultural identity, encompassing both Indigenous and modern perspectives.

The Australian delegation at IFFI includes representatives from Screen Australia, Ausfilm, and Screen Producers Australia (SPA). These organisations are actively participating in events such as the Film Bazaar, facilitating discussions on co-production opportunities and promoting Australia as a prime filming destination.

A significant highlight is the Co-Production Day, organised by Screen Australia. This event provides a platform for filmmakers from both nations to explore the potential of the recent Australia-India audiovisual co-production agreement, fostering collaboration and cultural exchange.

Adding to the celebrations, esteemed Australian filmmaker Phillip Noyce is being honoured with the Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award, recognising his outstanding contributions to cinema.

Australia’s prominent role at IFFI 2024 underscores the strengthening collaboration between the Indian and Australian film industries, celebrating cultural exchange and cinematic excellence.
