The Lotterywest Christmas Spectacular is gearing up for its much-anticipated return, with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra (WASO) once again set to bring festive joy to the heart of Perth. Thanks to a generous $309,335 grant from Lotterywest, this end-of-year celebration will come alive at RAC Arena, featuring free performances that draw thousands of Western Australians every year.

The event, firmly established as a December favourite since its debut in 2008, brings together people of all ages and backgrounds to experience the magic of live music. This year’s festivities are expected to attract up to 20,000 attendees across two performances—a matinee and an evening show—offering families, friends, and music lovers a chance to revel in the holiday spirit.

The Lotterywest funding will cover key production elements such as staging, audio, lighting, video screen hire, venue equipment, and security, ensuring the event remains a high-quality experience for all. This financial support makes it possible for WASO to keep the event accessible to everyone, a priority that has helped it become a staple of the WA festive season.

Culture and Arts Minister David Templeman emphasised the importance of the event in fostering a sense of community. He expressed pride in supporting an initiative that not only showcases exceptional local talent but also brings people together in a celebration of music and togetherness. The minister highlighted the significant role WASO has played over the past 15 years in making the Spectacular a cherished tradition, one that continues to unite Western Australians through the power of music.

From sweeping orchestral pieces to well-loved Christmas tunes, the Lotterywest Christmas Spectacular offers a rich musical programme designed to inspire and delight. WASO’s musicians, recognised for their world-class artistry, will take centre stage, transforming RAC Arena into a festive wonderland where holiday cheer resonates through every note.

As the event draws near, anticipation builds among families eager to participate in this free, family-friendly celebration. The Christmas Spectacular isn’t just about spreading seasonal joy; it’s a vibrant testament to the power of music to connect people from all walks of life. In a city bustling with end-of-year activity, the concert stands out as a unifying experience that leaves lasting memories, blending tradition and innovation in a showcase of local musical excellence.

Western Australians looking forward to the event should mark 14 December on their calendars. Both performances promise an unforgettable experience, whether you’re a regular concertgoer or experiencing the magic of WASO for the first time. As RAC Arena fills with the sounds of Christmas, the Lotterywest Christmas Spectacular will once again make spirits bright, embodying the festive cheer that brings WA together year after year.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.
