Sumeet Saigal, Top 8 contestant on MasterChef Australia 2024 and a winner at the World Food Championships (WFC) Australia, recently showcased her culinary flair on the world stage at the prestigious WFC in Indianapolis. Representing both Australia and her Indian roots, Sumeet competed fiercely alongside professional chefs from across the globe, securing a remarkable Top 4 position in her first round and ranking sixth in her second. Her dedication and skill at this event highlighted her drive to celebrate cultural heritage through cuisine.
With a mix of gratitude and joy, Sumeet shared her experiences on social media, expressing appreciation for those who contributed to her journey. She thanked the judges, organisers, and volunteers who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Her husband, Gurvinder Singh, stepped out of his comfort zone to support her in the kitchen, humourously learning to use an immersion blender for the first time. Her twins, Saachi and Samaar, cheered her on at all hours, while friends in the U.S. and family in India provided unwavering encouragement. Chef Maneet Chauhan, a celebrated chef and a long-time friend, has cheered for Sumeet since 1995, adding a deeply personal touch to this milestone.
Proudly representing Softlabs Global, Sumeet acknowledged the support from her professional team, noting the constant messages of encouragement that fuelled her resolve throughout the competition. Her success has been a testament to the importance of community and teamwork in reaching new heights.
Sumeet’s journey in 2024 has been impressive, marked by achievements such as her InTALIAN Simmer Sauce triumph in the MasterChef/Coles Sauce Challenge, a product now available at Coles. Her approach to blending Indian and Italian flavours struck a chord with judges and consumers alike, aligning with her passion for bringing Indian cuisine to broader audiences.
A rising star in the culinary world, Sumeet Saigal exemplifies the vibrant potential of blending heritage with innovation. Her story is a powerful reminder of how food can bridge worlds, celebrating culture, family, and creativity in every dish.
