As another summer of thrilling cricket looms on the horizon, NRMA Insurance has announced a new wave of support for local clubs through its 2024 Community Cricket Club Grants Program. Set to bolster community connections across Australia, the initiative will award twelve grants of $5,000 each to cricket clubs, enabling them to host events that bring communities together.
In its third year of partnership with Cricket Australia, NRMA Insurance is once again putting the spotlight on grassroots cricket, a sport that has long been a cornerstone of local camaraderie and resilience. These grants are designed to encourage clubs to organise events like gala days and family gatherings that foster unity, building bonds that last well beyond the boundary line.
Australian cricket legend Nathan Lyon, who attended a recent community event, reminisced about his formative years in community cricket and the pivotal role it played in his life. Reflecting on his days playing for clubs in rural New South Wales and Canberra, Lyon shared, “Community cricket is where I planted my roots. I learnt so much during those years, especially the importance of teamwork and enjoying the game. My passion for cricket started there, and I made lifelong friends while learning the value of supporting one another both on and off the field.” Lyon praised NRMA’s initiative, expressing his pride in supporting a program that nurtures the spirit of cricket within communities nationwide.
Michelle Klein, Chief Customer and Marketing Officer at NRMA Insurance, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the positive impact of the grant program. “Helping our customers and their communities is central to what we do. Over the years, we’ve seen the Cricket Grants Program spark excitement and strengthen the sense of belonging within communities. We’re eager to see this year’s recipients turn their grants into memorable community events, and we’re proud to continue supporting local clubs as they celebrate their love for the game and build resilience within their neighbourhoods.”
Applications for the NRMA Insurance Community Cricket Club Grants Program open at 9am on Friday, 15 November, inviting local clubs across Australia to apply. The application period will run until 31 January 2025, and clubs can submit their entries by visiting the NRMA website.
Through its Help Nation initiative, NRMA Insurance continues to focus on resilience, aiding Australians in understanding local risks and preparing for extreme weather events. As the most trusted insurance brand in Australia, NRMA Insurance remains committed to fostering safer, stronger communities—a dedication that has been at its core since its founding in 1925.
For cricket clubs, this summer could mark more than just another season on the pitch—it could be a chance to bring their communities together, strengthened by the support of NRMA Insurance’s grants.
