The much-anticipated Multicultural Health Week 2024 is set to take place from 2 September to 8 September, focusing on the health needs of culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. This year’s theme is promoting healthy eating with the idea of celebrating culture through food, particularly highlighting multicultural family lunchboxes.
The NSW Multicultural Health Communication Service (MHCS) is spearheading this initiative in collaboration with the Centre for Population Health, the NSW Ministry of Health, and Cancer Institute NSW. The highlight of this year’s event is the involvement of one of Australia’s favourite chefs, Adam Liaw, who will be sharing his multicultural family lunchbox recipes.
Expressing his enthusiasm, Adam Liaw said, “I’m delighted to be part of Multicultural Health Week this year. Coming from a migrant family, I understand the unique challenges and barriers that multicultural communities may experience in accessing food and practising healthy eating. Whatever your background or culture, the way you eat at home can easily be your inspiration for healthy eating.”
Lisa Woodland, Director of MHCS, shared the team’s excitement about working with Adam Liaw. “For this year’s Multicultural Health Week, we are thrilled to collaborate with Adam to raise awareness that a healthy lunch can help children and adults have plenty of energy to work, learn and play during the day. I am sure Adam’s recipes will inspire families to build their own multicultural lunchboxes with healthy foods including vegetables and fruits.”
MHCS encourages everyone to follow Adam’s multicultural family lunchbox recipes, celebrate our cultural diversity, and promote healthy eating in your workplace, school, or community setting. This initiative is a wonderful opportunity to embrace the rich cultural tapestry of Australia while fostering healthy eating habits across diverse communities.
Multicultural Health Week 2024 promises to be an exciting event, bringing communities together to focus on healthy eating and cultural celebration. With Adam Liaw leading the charge, the week aims to inspire and educate, ensuring that healthy eating is accessible and enjoyable for all.
Join in from 2 September to 8 September and celebrate the vibrant cultural diversity of Australia through healthy, delicious, and culturally inspired meals.

We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution.
