FORM Dance Projects is launching IDEA – Independent Dance Exchange Australia, an annual dance festival set to invigorate the Greater Sydney area.
Spanning four weeks, IDEA’24 will showcase an intensive program of public performances, workshops, and seminars led by both local and international experts in First Nations practice, contemporary dance, and physical theatre.
IDEA represents FORM Dance’s latest city-wide creative initiative, designed to revitalise opportunities and foster creative productivity within Sydney’s dance sector. The festival aims to support recent graduates and mid-career artists, providing them with a platform to develop and present new works.
In collaboration with Sydney-wide partners including Critical Path, Riverside Theatres, Brand X, Q-Topia, and the Sydney Opera House, IDEA promises to be an annual event featuring master workshops, new Australian-made productions, international programming, and extensive touring opportunities facilitated through FORM’s network of partners.
IDEA’24 offers a variety of development opportunities for participating artists, from two-week intensives to shorter five-day deep dives. The festival will also feature a weekly Saturday ‘Water Cooler’ event, where creative leaders will gather to discuss their processes in a shared forum with sector colleagues, audiences, and communities.
Workshops will highlight some of the most influential and in-demand choreographic voices, including Crystal Pite (hosted by Jiří Pokorný), Hofesh Shechter (hosted by Sam Coren), and Maxine Doyle (UK) with Gabrielle Nankivell (AU). The program also features First Nations choreographer Vicki Van Hout (AU), queer Muslim artist Sadiq Ali (UK), and Marc Brew (AU/UK), a leading voice in dance and disability.

Dear Reader,The Indian Sun is an independent organisation committed to community journalism. We have, through the years, been able to reach a wide audience especially with the growth of social media, where we also have a strong presence. With platforms such as YouTube videos, we have been able to engage in different forms of storytelling. However, the past few years, like many media organisations around the world, it has not been an easy path. We have a greater challenge. We believe community journalism is very important for a multicultural country like Australia. We’re not able to do everything, but we aim for some of the most interesting stories and journalism of quality. We call upon readers like you to support us and make any contribution. Do make a DONATION NOW so we can continue with the volume and quality journalism that we are able to practice.
Thank you for your support.
Best wishes,
Team The Indian Sun
