Victoria’s aspiring basketball stars the unique opportunity to train with their local heroes before they shine at the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Acting Premier Ben Carroll and Acting Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events Ros Spence attended the super kids clinic at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre today, led by the Opals, Boomers, Rollers, and Gliders, to celebrate BALLIN’24.
This coaching clinic allows young basketball enthusiasts in Victoria to learn from their homegrown idols. Over 400 players, aged 10-16, are honing their skills and gaining insights from some of Australia’s top basketball talents, with support from Basketball Australia.
Thousands of fans are expected to gather at John Cain Arena for this pre-Olympics series, starting next Tuesday, 5 July, with a match between the Boomers and China. The event will feature three nights of competitions, including men’s, women’s, wheelchair, and 3×3 basketball.
All six of Australia’s national basketball teams will participate in this historic series in Melbourne. The games will be broadcast in China, Japan, and globally, reaching millions of viewers and reinforcing Melbourne’s reputation as Australia’s premier events and sports capital.
BALLIN’24 enhances Victoria’s impressive winter calendar of sports and cultural events, including game two of the NRL State of Origin, Wallabies vs. Wales, the RISING festival, and the NGV’s Melbourne Winter Masterpieces exhibition, Pharaoh.
Victoria’s bustling schedule of major events generated a record $39.3 billion for the state’s economy in the year ending March 2024, boosting local jobs, businesses, and attracting thousands of visitors to Melbourne.
