Forty years after its inception, Shincheonji Church of Jesus celebrated its establishment anniversary with a large-scale commemoration at the Shincheonji Peace Training Center in Cheongpyeong, South Korea, on March 14th. The event saw an impressive turnout with over 30,000 attendees converging at the Peace Training Center, alongside a global audience tuning in through a live broadcast. The celebration was not just a local affair but an international one, with representatives from countries including Australia, New Zealand, Austria, and South Africa marking their presence.

Founded on March 14th, 1984, in South Korea, Shincheonji Church of Jesus, also known as New Heaven New Earth, has witnessed steady growth, countering the trend of stagnation observed in global Christianity. The church has been a beacon for individuals seeking deeper understanding of the Bible, purpose in life, and spiritual exploration, especially highlighted by the increasing interest post the COVID-19 pandemic.

The church’s theological education arm, Zion Christian Mission Centre, has seen remarkable enrollment numbers, demonstrating the growing interest. In 2019, the centre celebrated its 110th graduation ceremony with a record-breaking 103,764 students. This milestone ushered in the era of 100,000 graduates. The subsequent years maintained this high enrollment, with 106,186 and 108,084 students completing their Bible courses in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

Since the pandemic, Shincheonji has expanded its reach globally through online Bible seminars, sparking interest from international religious communities. This led to significant collaborations, culminating in a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for word exchange with 443 churches in South Korea and 9,462 churches across 77 countries. Following this, 1,382 churches in 38 countries have rebranded to Shincheonji Church of Jesus, highlighting a unifying movement within the Christian community.

Shincheonji also facilitated a religious exchange program in South Korea, bringing together 80 leaders from various countries, fostering a sense of global religious unity and shared learning. An official from the church expressed satisfaction with the orderly and safe conduct of the anniversary event, attributing success to the active participation and guidance of its believers. The church aims to further establish itself as a model for society, playing an active social role and striving to be a beacon of light and guidance in the community.

Reflecting on this milestone, the church’s journey from a modest beginning to a global presence is a testament to its enduring appeal and the resonant message it carries. As Shincheonji Church of Jesus steps into its fifth decade, it continues to build on its legacy of spiritual education, community engagement, and international cooperation, looking forward to a future where it can further its impact and outreach in the spiritual and social spheres.

Support Independent Community Journalism

Dear Reader,

The Indian Sun exists for one reason: to tell stories that might otherwise go unheard.
We report on local councils, state politics, small businesses and cultural festivals. We focus on the Indian diaspora and the wider multicultural community with care, balance and accountability. We publish in print and online, send regular newsletters and produce video content. We also run media training programs to help community organisations share their own stories.

We operate independently.

Community journalism does not have the backing of large media corporations. Advertising revenue fluctuates. Platform algorithms change. Costs continue to rise. Yet the need for credible, grounded reporting in a multicultural Australia has never been greater.

When you support The Indian Sun, you support:

• Independent reporting on issues affecting migrant communities
• Coverage of local and state decisions that shape daily life
• A platform for small businesses and community groups
• Media training that builds skills within the community
• Journalism accountable to readers

We cannot cover everything, but we work to cover what matters.

If you value thoughtful reporting that reflects Australia’s diversity, we invite you to contribute. Every donation helps us maintain the quality and consistency of our work.

Please consider making a contribution today.

Thank you for your support.

  1. So amazing in a world where Christianity is going down to see a Church able to gather a large number of believers. Praying and hoping that Shincheonji can continue to grow quickly
