Parramatta is rolling out the red carpet for its senior citizens this month, with a dazzling array of free and low-cost events and activities as part of the 2024 NSW Seniors Festival. From the rhythm of Zumba Gold to the silver screen’s magic, there’s something to delight everyone.
The City of Parramatta is pulling out all the stops to ensure its older residents remain vibrant and connected within the community. Lord Mayor Cr Pierre Esber emphasized the council’s dedication to helping seniors stay active and engaged, acknowledging their significant contributions to the area over the years.

The festival’s highlight reel includes a mix of cinematic treasures and live entertainment at Riverside Theatres. Film buffs can look forward to screenings of classics like ‘Bob Marley: One Love’ and ‘A Star is Born,’ as well as a special 80th-anniversary concert celebrating Rodgers and Hammerstein’s ‘My Favourite Things.’ The lineup also features ‘The Mavis Bramston Show’ and a selection of Oscar-nominated short films.
But the fun doesn’t stop at the movies. The Parramatta Aquatic Centre is inviting seniors to ‘Walk the Ring’ with a free facility tour and dive into a range of free exercise sessions. From gentle aqua workouts to water safety and drowning prevention sessions, there’s plenty to keep attendees moving and grooving.

For those looking to soothe their souls, PHIVE and Parramatta Libraries are offering Zumba Gold and sound healing sessions using singing bowl therapy. Additionally, a variety of classes are available to help seniors navigate everyday life, from exploring ageing and brain health to managing digital assets and tech-savvy sessions in multiple languages.
Seniors are encouraged to seize this opportunity to reconnect with old friends and forge new bonds while indulging in a diverse array of activities. The festival promises a golden chance for Parramatta’s seniors to shine, proving that age is just a number when it comes to having a good time.
