In the heart of Townsville, just a few months into its grand opening, Indian Royal Flavours has already become a culinary landmark. While Amandeep “Aman” Singh is a steadfast partner bringing his own flair to the restaurant, it’s Taraspal Singh “Laadi” Randhawa who provides the other driving force behind this burgeoning enterprise.

Taraspal “Laadi” Randhawa’s journey to the Land Down Under began in August 2019 when he touched Australian soil as a student. Shortly thereafter, he opted for a master’s degree in International Hotel Management, a choice that wasn’t made on a whim but as a reflection of an enduring passion for the hospitality industry. His backstory is peppered with culinary adventures, including running restaurants and cafes in India. “We are on what I consider the busiest location in Townsville,” Taraspal “Laadi” quips, underscoring the strategic position of his restaurant.

Before he called Australia home, Taraspal had sharpened his culinary and management skills during an influential seven-year stint in Singapore, working at renowned establishments like the Swissotel at Clarke Quay. This period left an indelible mark on his approach to food and beverages. One can taste this influence, quite literally, in the Singapore Sling—a cocktail that enjoys a spot of honour on the restaurant’s eclectic menu.

Uncompromising in his commitment to authenticity and quality, Taraspal “Laadi” is resolute: “We don’t take shortcuts. We make our own spices and avoid buying pre-made mixes. Everything is fresh and organic.” This is no hollow claim but a philosophy that finds expression in the special offerings like ‘Makki di Roti and Sarso da Saag,’ available throughout the year, and in traditional favourites such as ‘Amritsari Kulcha’ and ‘Chole Bhature,’ along with the novel inclusion of ‘Dhaba Style Chicken’ and ‘Dahi Sev Puri.’ Complementing these are the tantalising desserts, featuring homemade mango and pista kesar kulfi, among others.

With offerings such as Malabari fish curry, Kashmiri chicken, and traditional goat curry, the restaurant has received rave reviews. “The local Indian community here is in love with our food. We’re committed to ensuring that our dishes remain both traditional and unique,” he states.

Only four months in operation and expansion is already on the cards. “Our ambition doesn’t stop at being the most famous restaurant in Townsville. We plan to branch out to other parts of Queensland,” Taraspal “Laadi” reveals, always keeping quality as the cornerstone for any future franchising endeavours.

When probed about what keeps his entrepreneurial spirit ignited, he’s unequivocal: “Self-inspiration is my greatest driver. We embarked on this venture with a relentless focus on quality and have been greeted with overwhelmingly positive feedback. People appreciate what we are doing, and we are determined to keep delivering on our promise.”

With his seasoned background and an insatiable passion for his craft, Taraspal “Laadi” Singh Randhawa is not just spicing up dishes but is on a mission to redefine the restaurant landscape in Townsville—one authentic spice at a time.
